Melvin Rodriguez

A native of the Bronx, New York, Melvin Rodriguez began his fencing career nearly two decades ago. Under the tutelage of USA Fencing Hall of Fame coach Martin Schneider, Melvin was admitted to Columbia University where he became captain of the fencing team. Melvin credits Daria Schneider (current Harvard Head Coach) and Aladar Kogler (legendary Olympic coach in all 3 weapons) as key influences in his career. As an athlete, Melvin earned Junior World Cup and Senior Pan American medals as well as a top 50 FIE world ranking while representing Puerto Rico. Melvin has 15 years of experience as a coach. He began teaching fencing at a summer camp while still in high school. That early introduction to coaching led to a passion for mentoring young athletes.

For the last 8 years, Melvin has worked as a professional coach at both Fencers Club of Arizona and Tim Morehouse Fencing. He has produced students that went on to medal at every level of competition from regional to international. Coach Melvin believes that he can help his students on and off the strip by instilling a strong work ethic while also enjoying the process of self-improvement.
