Maestra Sara Vicenzin

Sara has been involved in Fencing for 45 years. She was first introduced to the sport as an athlete. Following her athlete career, she found her passion in coaching and has been coaching for the past 25 years. In 2005 she earned her “Maestro of Fencing” Degree in Italy at the National Academy of Fencing. Additionally, Sara earned a Sports Management Degree and Social Community Manager Degree in Rome, Italy.

Her first job was coaching students in her competitive fencing club in Italy. There she was able to produce several cadet and junior world championship medalist, world cup medalists and national team members. She then traveled on to work with the Italian National team for 14 years. In addition to working with the national team Sara helped many foreign national team fencers as well.

This is her second season in the United States and her first year at AFFA. In her first season working with American fencers, Sara was able to help her students achieve 10 medals at the North American Cup Competitions and two medals at the cadet and junior world cups.

Her highest achievement of her coaching career was leading Italian fencer Michela Battiston and co-coaching American fencer Khalil Thompson to their Tokyo Olympic Games qualification. Prior to the Summer Games she also helped Caterina Navarria capture the Team Gold at the 2011 Cadet & Junior Worlds in Amman, Jordan and a Silver Individual Medal at the 2012 Junior World Championships in Moscow, Russia.
